Botox is a substance consisting of botulinum toxin type A and is injected in tiny amounts into the muscle fibers that create the expression lines. The toxin Botox affects the body by blocking the release of a substance called acetylcholine. The expression of blocking acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter that participates in the transmission of messages in the nervous system and whose main activity is focused on the system related to voluntary muscle movement in the body, is a mild paralysis of the muscles. Thus, those muscles that are called expression muscles in the face and that over the years cause the appearance of expression lines are essentially paralyzed, and the expression lines are significantly reduced and sometimes even disappear completely. Botox is effective for a period of three to six months, its treatment does not require anesthesia and is used to eliminate expression lines mainly in the area between the eyebrows, on the forehead and on the sides of the eyes.

After the use of Botox became public and was approved by the FDA, quite a few mass wrinkle removal treatments were performed with Botox injection, which in most cases were done without a doctor’s supervision and in an unprofessional manner. These events or “Botox parties” disappeared after the death of one of the participants who developed an allergy to Botox and now all Botox injection treatments are under supervision and are performed by competent and licensed professionals in the field of aesthetics.

Here it is worth noting that Botox treatments are considered safe treatments and severe allergic reactions are extremely rare, however this is still a medical procedure that must be performed in an orderly place, under medical supervision and after the subject’s medical history has been examined and the possibility of an allergy to the substance has been ruled out.
